For this month’s blog, we’d like to take a closer look at one of our company partners – National Hoops Ministries.  In 2004, Mike Washer started this basketball outreach under the ministry and guidance of West Gate Baptist Church in Spartanburg, SC. Over the past 14 years, National Hoops has hosted tournaments literally all over the world. In addition to their weekly tournaments across the United States, they now run full time events in the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, India and China.

Their methodology is simple…host basketball tournaments and share the gospel. Typically, the National Hoops team will arrive at their destination on Monday and immediately begin passing out invitations at all the nearby public schools, rec centers and similar. Then Saturday all the fun begins. Tip-off is usually around 10am with FREE lunch to follow around 12pm. After everyone eats, Mike or someone from his team will share the good news. Then the final games will reside immediately after the devotion.

At the end of each event, every player is invited to the National Hoops basketball camp with FREE admission given to all the tournament winners. This is also where the national champions from each bracket are decided. To date, this event has taken place at Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Some of the highlights of the week are skills training from a Div. 1 college basketball coach, 3-point competitions, fun game of knockout and of course the 3v3 finals to determine the national champions.

In recent years, Mike Washer has felt the need to focus more on the discipleship side of the ministry by writing several different books that aim to help young people on their journey. If you or someone you know would like to learn more about the National Hoops Ministry, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mike Washer and his team at http://www.nationalhoops.com/contact-us.html.
