This month’s blog is a quick recap of our recent podcast interview with Devin Terris – athletic director at Grace Christian School in Raleigh, NC. On this episode, Devin highlights a few techniques for better scheduling habits that he’s learned along the way. If you’d like to hear the entire interview, please click here.
As some of you know, scheduling can be one of the toughest jobs of an athletic director. Whether it be practice times, facility rentals or Friday night homecomings, scheduling is such a big part of an athletic director’s daily routine. It requires a tremendous amount of patience and communication skills that are often underappreciated at this position. Some programs have the luxury of outsourcing most of these larger responsibilities to a full-time events coordinator, but that is definitely the exception – not the norm.
Thankfully, there are some great tools out there that can really help manage a lot of the scheduling for you. Devin has been using Big Teams (formerly Schedule Star) for several years and has nothing but good things to say about the software. This particular program even provides an athletic website for your school that hosts all of the news, events and other helpful details for you. Check them out at https://www.bigteams.com/.
In closing, remember that no matter what type of scheduling you are involved in, “never assume, always confirm.” Thanks for that helpful insight Devin!
